Hello fellow residents,

I hope you're enjoying the great weather we're having recently.

This is my first official newsletter as Councillor for Crewe St Barnabas. I want to say a huge thank you to every single person who put their trust in me and voted for me on polling day in May.  I wanted to be elected to improve where we all live and I will do my best to continue to do that for you over the next 4 years.  I am thankful for your support which has allowed me to become our Councillor for not only Cheshire East Council, but also Crewe Town Council who do some fantastic work around our town, including organising the Crewe Knife Angel visit and its events.

I joined many of you at the closing ceremony of the Knife Angel statue in Crewe. It was a very moving ceremony, and we heard from the families of knife crime victims - a real reminder of the devastation that violence can cause. A huge thank you to all those involved in bringing it to the area.

I've been all around the roads of Crewe St Barnabas reporting potholes and looking for areas that could benefit from further work. I've reported issues on Smith Grove, Timbrell Avenue, Sandiway Road, Minshull New road, West Street and MANY more. One of my priorities is improving our roads in St Barnabas.  Over the next few weeks many of the potholes will be marked for repair and patched.

I will continue to work on getting our roads improved in the coming months.

If there is pothole or highways issue you'd like me to try and resolve please contact me!

One of the things many residents tell me is their frustration with litter and flytipping where we live.  Over the past couple of weeks I have carried out ward walks of our area to identify fly tipping hot spots and get them cleared.  I've had multiple loads of waste removed and also reported a faulty alley gate to be repaired.

I'll soon be meeting up with Guinness Housing representatives to find out how they are helping to look after our area and discuss any issues.  If there is something you'd like me to discuss please let me know.

I'm also looking for volunteers for a litter picking group, this will be just around our own areas so firstly I am looking for suggestions on where to carry out the litter picks but more importantly at this stage I need volunteers so that we can actually do this!  Please reply to this email or contact me if you would like to be part of the litter picking group, that way I can work out how much equipment we need and speak to you to work out when is best to do our first litter pick.  Please do get involved if you can as this will make a huge difference to our area.

I asked the Crewe Town Rangers to give Leighton Brook Park a tidy up.  They did a great job and have strimmed around the playground and the park entrances, it looks much tidier now with the weeds and nettles cleared back.

We have a new playground to look forward to which should be installed towards the end of the Summer in to Autumn.

Unfortunately we have had some issues with Anti Social Behaviour in the area especially around Leighton Brook Park.  I found the playground equipment in a mess last weekend, I ensured that it was clean and ready for families to use again. This sort of behaviour is unacceptable, was recorded on the CCTV and highlighted to the ASB team.  I have been in discussions with PCSO Jolley about the recent ASB problems.  If you have any information or wish to report anything please do get in contact, call 101 or report online.   I would encourage you to report ASB issues however small.  The more issues we report the more focus we will get for our area.

I've written to residents of Redwood Drive about a submitted planning application proposing to realign the footpath along Leighton Brook.

I've also written to residents in the Minshull New Road area with regards to a submitted planning application for a proposed 9 Bedroom HMO (House of Multiple Occupancy) proposed for the old mechanics garage site at 173 Minshull New Road

I've really enjoyed my first few weeks in my new role and have been been busy not only with the formalities of getting started as our new Councillor but also around our area but by already looking in to many issues you've reported to me, from grass cutting, pot holes, parking, anti social behaviour, fly tipping, planning applications and many more. I've also met so many fantastic people in our area already!  If you have something you'd like me to look in to please do get in contact.
